PLACES OF WORSHIP

 

Temples

A number of temples with histories dating back as early as the thirteenth century A.D, are found all over Goa. The Manguesh Temple in Priol is known for its chandelier-adorned interior. Other well-known temples are the Mahalsa Temple. The Temple of Shantadurga and Sri Nagesh Temple.

 

Churches                     

 Built of laterite and lime plaster, the Churches in Goa are a legacy of the Portuguese. The styles of the renaissance and baroque are combined effectively to make each an architectural masterpiece. The Basilica of Born Jesus, where the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier rest, is by far the best known. Others include the Se Cathedral Chapel of St. Francis Xavier and the Church of Our Lady of Rosary. The Churches at Old Goa have been included in the list of World Heritage Monuments.

 

Mosques

A few mosques were build as early as 1560A.D.
